Hello there, I am Vassilis.
And I love ambigrams.
I’ve been part of the ambigram scene since 2008, as long as I remember. I’ve been always interested in how things work. Maybe it’s my profession, I am an architect engineer in my daily life. I draw stuff. Mainly buildings. But, man, ambigrams… they are amazing! You can see all sorts of design principles within them. Balance, symmetry, emphasis, proportion, rhythm… I learn new stuff everyday when I take a look into your art.
Yes, I said your art. Because it’s you, my fellow ambigram artists, that have inspired me to make this journey. I’m intrigued by how your mind works. Every one of your ambigram pieces that you’ve share with the world, including me, is a step. A step for me to write down what principles of ambi-grams are there. What underlying mechanisms exist that makes us read a piece in two ways. That’s why I talk about typology. It’s not everyday that we invent something new, and that’s totally ok. But from time to time, there is an ambigram that works way differently than we used to know. I first had this feeling when I saw a figure-ground piece. How could a person ever think of that?
Well, after almost two decades, here we are, having this conversation. It’s not me writing a post and you reading, no. We walk together on this journey. I’m just the one that writes it down. And I’m glad you are here. Because I want to inspire you the way you inspired me.
Thanks V!
You are welcome. One more thing. Probably not everything that you say in this site will resonate with the real you, because every one of us is different. But hey, you get the meaning. You are precious. I’m blessed you exist. And I will be more happy if you share your thoughts with me.
How can I come in touch with you?
Easy peasy. You can message me at [email protected]
And I would like you to subscribe to this newsletter, you will help me know that there are people out there that care about learning what’s next uncharted territory on the ambigram map.
